8 Tips for selecting the right ERP Partner

The factors you should (or should not) consider when selecting the new ERP Partner.

We derived the points from our experience in the ERP industry for more than a decade. Dax Software Solutions, as a Microsoft Gold Certified ERP Partner, not only takes care of these points but several other things so that you scale your business to heights.

  1. Pick the partner, not the price: It is important to understand that price you pay for ERP implementation or support services is directly proportional to the number of Man-hours. So, if you are selecting a resource that charges less per hour but takes more time to complete the work, it will cost you more.
  2. Go-To-Market Time: If you still go with the option of selecting a cheap resource due to budget constraints. You are risking delayed project delivery. This might give a competitive advantage to your peers because of delayed Go-To-Market.
  3. Stop comparing apples with oranges: If you do not know how to evaluate ERP consultants and think they all are the same, then you are making a huge mistake. An experienced, knowledgeable ERP consultant can transform and scale your business like anything. You cannot expect the same results when you work with an inexperienced consultant.
  4. Short-term gains v/s long-term gains: An inexperienced consultant may cost you less at the start but may cost you a lot more in the future. It is important that you have experienced consultants in ERP projects. You can improve company operations, business processes, and service delivery, and provide an overall good customer experience.
  5. Technical knowledge is not everything: One point to remember is that “EXPERIENCE” is valuable in ERP projects. You cannot transform your business with JAVA or Python coding blocks only. You need an experienced functional consultant who understands the market, handles customer expectations and knows business rules and legal boundaries to make the project successful.
  6. Who stays till the end: Only a few will stay till the end, wait for that few. It is worse when your partner leaves you in the middle of nowhere. This is where most of the projects fail. You should always select a partner who commits and stick with you till the end.
  7. Talk about Knowledge Transfer: You might have seen splendid software or website, but nobody uses it. It is because nobody worked on its adoption. Always verify how your partner is going to teach you what they developed. Ensure you allocate proper time to customer training, demo sessions, video recordings, documentation, etc.
  8. Avoid overcommitments: This is a common issue when you are choosing partners. During bidding, you will find vendors who over-commit. Remember, overcommitment never works! In fact, it reduces employee creativity, increases team stress levels, and reduces the quality of work. This situation leads to code patches being somehow integrated by your partner. Such projects are not farsighted and of superior quality code. Your LIVE system will always run into errors, and you will be trapped in a loop of errors and AMS (Application Management and Support) costs.
